Kick off the Summer with some Art in New Hope, PA

Wow! what an amazing place for an art show! This old stone barn looks like a pretty cool place - glad I am not banging in all those hanging nails!

I am looking forward to seeing the show over Memorial Day Weekend and to exploring the town of New Hope, PA and maybe a quick hop across the river to Lambertsville, NJ. There are a lot of arty shops, old stone buildings, quirky architecture, plenty of art galleries and fun places to eat. yumyumyum

Check out the town pics on Google if you don't believe me : New Hope & Lambertville

The show ends on Memorial Day, but is open from this Friday. So what are your plans for the official start of summer?

Thanks to Mike Dziomba for the photos and for sharing the driving load! (I am on pick-up duty - with any luck there will be less to carry!)

A Soggy Spring on the Farm

Despite the somewhat damp set-up on Wednesday, Sunday promises to be mostly sunny and warm, so Spring will be in sumptuous full bloom - almost as glorious as the art blossoming inside. Although I may not brave my strappiest summer sandals in the soggy undergrowth just yet.
I might even be persuaded to have dinner at one of my favorite places nearby at The Stirling Hotel (they do rather a good plate of sausages)

I am excited to be part of this terrific selection of work from The Exhibitors' Co-op at this unique historic setting this Spring. The show is looking terrific, with a great selection of paintings, drawings, collage. Some abstracts, some realism, something for everyone to enjoy

The arts center is located on the grounds of the historic Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead, an award-winning historic preservation project centered around the 18th century farmhouse, English barn, cow shed and wagon house.

The grounds are now used for performing and visual arts, as well as housing a number of artists studios.

I love the smell of pencil in the morning

A last minute commission from Derwent Pencils landed in my Inbox last month. Quite exciting for an ex-pat Brit to be commissioned by the oldest pencil company in England! So away went the paints and out came the pencil sharpener again.

It was also rather a pleasant change to be welcomed into the studio by the smell of freshly sharpened pencil again. And the new tinted charcoal pencils that Derwent sent me are really lovely to work with. I will have to try to find some time (and space!) to get back to drawing again. The painting gear has quite swamped my drawing table again

Oh dear, I feel a Spring Clean coming on.
Thankfully it is definitely now Spring!

The scout spotted my purple pencil drawing online and asked for something similar using their new tinted charcoal pencils. It was quite a challenge working from a print of my own work, rather than from a photo or the real thing.

New Website : come and play

well here it is, THE NEW WEBSITE.
And it only took me 3 months - not bad!

After making quite a few for other people, I have finally got around to revamping, updating and Spring Cleaning mine at last. So the cobblers children finally have new shoes!

So have a play, let me know what you think and please let me know if you find anything broken!

right - so what's next on the to-do list?

Do you stir early or late?

Morning Stir : oil : 9x12"

With this painting, I wanted to capture that time of the day when all you can focus on is the hot cup in front of you, its aroma gently rousing your brain to bring the rest of the world into focus.

Sometimes that time of day is 6am...sometimes it is noon...and at this time of the year especially, it sometimes involves a pounding headache and a bit of a delicate stomach.

fig.1

fig.1 | oil painting | 8x8"   SOLD

I was trying to catch the exquisite pleasure of munching fresh figs - a fairly recent discovery for me. A Christmas packet of squashed-together-figs and a barge of dried dates were always knocking around the fruit bowl well into the New Year, when all the satsumas were long gone. But they were the dried-up golden variety.

Nothing wrong with them. Quite like them in fact. But it was a while before I realized that figs are not flat and wizened and all about those crunchy seeds

Not a hint of the honeyed, moist flesh of the fresh ones; the joy of soft, fuzzy skin yielding to plump, rosy...

a-hem ... excuse me, I must just go and eat a fig...

PS - this one sold before it was even finished, let alone dry! But you can still buy a print on Etsy - free US shipping

Look out for fig.2...coming soon
